Kosovo is to invest €250 million into the construction of a new national stadium. The news was announced by Prime Minister Albin Kurti, with the money to be released after Kosovo has been chosen to host the Mediterranean Games in 2030.

The government said that it is not yet clear where the stadium will be built as a feasibility study has yet to be completed.

The issue of the development of Kosovo’s national stadium has been present for years. Currently the country has only one stadium – ‘Fadil Vokrri’ in Pristina – which meets the criteria of FIFA and UEFA and hosts national team and European club competition matches.

The stadium is part of a wider initiative to build or improve sports infrastructure in Kosovo.

“The total number of sports facilities in the initial project is 24. Ten sports facilities will be renovated, including the Youth and Sports Palace. There will be four constructions, including the national stadium, the swimming pool and tennis complex, and the shooting range. Five temporary infrastructural investments and five other projects that are under construction or completion, including the ‘Adem Jashari’ stadium in Mitrovica and the stadium in Gjilan”, Kurti said at the Government meeting.

The Deputy Minister of Sports of Kosovo, Daulina Osmani, said that the location of the national stadium will be known after the feasibility study.
