Lately demonstrations are rife in the world. Recently, in Indonesia there has been a wave of large demonstrations from students who reject the RKUHP Law. Students consider that the RKUHP is a wrong legal and political product, and potentionally can harm innocent people.
As for the demands of students to the government, in this case the DPR: First, to restore efforts to eradicate corruption, collusion and nepotism. Second, restoring democracy, the right of the people to have an opinion, respecting the protection and fulfilment of human rights, and involving the people in the policy making process.
Third, restoring the protection of natural resources, implementing agrarian reform and labor from an exploitative economy. Fourth, restoring national and state unity by eliminating interethnic discrimination, economic equality, and protection for women.
Meanwhile, more than 500 people have been arrested throughout Egypt since demonstrations erupted in Cairo and other cities. Hundreds of residents took to the streets on Friday and Saturday (9/21/2019) in a rare demonstration calling on President Abdel Fattah Al Sisi to resign.
Egypt effectively banned protests under a law passed in 2013 by President Mohamed Morsi. The side was elected as president the following year with 96.9 percent of the vote.
The demonstrations that took place in Indonesia and Egypt have a clear reason that the issues raised are about the rule of law that is fair, human rights and the problem of corruption.
Meanwhile, if compared to the demonstrations that took place in Hong Kong. Where the Hong Kong government, which originally wanted to enforce the law fairly, instead got a fight from young people who are not rational in seeing the problem.
Demonstrations that have been running for months, on their way, are filled with acts of anarchism targeting public facilities, even attacks on police officers and their innocent families.
After the Hong Kong government showed its democratic attitude, by still listening to the aspirations of the demonstrators, with the steps to revoke the bill that they questioned. Instead of being satisfied and appreciating the attitude of the Hong Kong government, demonstrators instead increased anarchist action and increasingly showed their radical side.
It is not wrong if the endless aspirations carried out by them, it is believed will instead keep Hong Kong from reconciliation and consolidation for the future of Hong Kong.
As for the demands of the demonstrators, it has moved far from their initial attitude. They now demand 5 things, and fight for their aspirations in the wrong way and far from democratic system. Their demands are:
- Full withdrawal of the extradition bill
- An investigation commission for alleged police brutality
- Revoke the classification of protesters as “rioters”
- Amnesty for protesters arrested
- Dual universal suffrage, meaning for the Legislative Council and Executive Chair
At some point, among of them it is increasingly seen that what is the basis of their demands is wrong and wrong. As in the point of demanding an investigation into the alleged brutality committed by the Hong Kong security forces.
And over time, the fact is increasingly open that it is clear that the Hong Kong Police are only carrying out their duties of maintaining security and order from rioting demonstrators.
Finally, there is something truly wrong in their demands. Asking the executive leader to step down and urge the holding of legislative and re-executive elections, in fact it will actually bring Hong Kong into the politics of international politics that is of no apparent importance.
What happened in Hong Kong make us realize that what they refer to as fighting for the country’s future, has the potential to damage the country itself.
