June 13 (SeeNews) – Bulgaria’s electricity production went down by an annual 22.11% to 18,724 GWh between January 1 and June 11, the Electricity System Operator (ESO) said.

Domestic power consumption decreased by 5.42% on the year to 17,159 GWh, ESO said in its latest data release on Monday.

Bulgaria’s power trade surplus slumped by 73.46% compared to the same period of last year and amounted to 1,565 GWh.

In parallel, the volume of renewable energy in the transmission network jumped by 26.57% on the year to 907 GWh. There was a nearly 87% annual surge in electricity from solar generation, to 462.6 GWh. The total volume of renewable energy in the distribution system, meanwhile, inched down by 0.68% to 1,025 GWh, with solar the only component to increase on the year, by 6.5% to 609.1 GWh.

The output of hydro power plants fell by 23.19% in annual terms to some 1,547 GWh, the data showed.
