In a statement on September 29, Bulgaria’s Foreign Ministry reiterated its advice to the country’s citizens that they should not travel to or be in Israel unless in cases of urgency.
The call came against the background of the conflict between Israel and terrorist groups Hezbollah and Hamas.
All Bulgarians arriving in and departing Israel via Ben Gurion Airport should check with their airline in advance about flight schedule changes, the ministry said.
The Foreign Ministry noted that the European Union Aviation Safety Agency had recommended to airlines not to travel in Israeli air space.
The ministry said that there would be no Bulgaria Air flights to Israel and September 29 and 30. A decision on flights in October has not yet been announced.
Earlier, the Foreign Ministry had called on the country’s citizens not to travel to Lebanon and for those in Lebanon to leave that country immediately.
On September 29, Bulgaria’s caretaker Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev was convening a meeting involving various ministries on measures to evacuate Bulgarian citizens from Lebanon.
The call, issued on September 27, came “in connection with the serious escalation of hostilities in recent hours”.
On September 26, the Foreign Ministry called on Bulgarian citizens to refrain from traveling to Iran, except in cases of extreme necessity.
